[Updated] It was just a few months ago that the Greater-Miami community seemed to be inundated with publicity and news coverage centering around the possible historic designation of the Herald Building. The Herald published many articles and opinion pieces about the topic, even conducting a poll where over 80% or the respondents indicated that the building should not receive such designation.
As a way to participate in this public discussion, Preservation Miami hoped to facilitate a thoughtful and intellectual conversation, one that explored the pros and cons of pursuing such a designation in an effort ot save the building. In establishing a community forum, we encouraged participants to focus on such aspects/criteria as: architectural significance, historical significance, context of and contribution to the surrounding neighborhood, possibilities of future land use and buildings thereof, usage and functionality of the existing structure if saved, and any other aspect which one might deem important to explore in such a conversation. It should be noted that contributors were specifically asked to exclude any consideration or conversation about the possible future use as a casino. That being said, it has certainly not gone unnoticed that ever since the legislation allowing for the possibility of such a casino to exist failed to be voted on and adopted in Tallahassee, the effort to designate the Herald building has seemed to also quietly fade away from the public spotlight.
If you you would like to express your thoughts and opinion on the topic, Preservation Miami would like to extend this invitation to participate in our poll and to leave a comment sharing your views. Please click on the Article Title above or "Read More" below to continue.
